Mrs. Kung’s bio：
Elaine was born and raised in Hong Kong. She earned her college and graduate degrees from Cornell and Princeton in Electrical and Materials Science Engineering. She has been working at AT&T since 1985. AT&T sponsored Elaine through graduate school at Princeton while she was working part time. Over the years, Elaine held technical and business roles for a wide range of products and services. She is currently the Director of AT&T Mobility Solutions Services. In 2011, Elaine was the recipient of the Industry Career Achievement Award from STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) Conference for Women of Color. Outside of work, Elaine and her husband Dominic have been active in serving at local churches in teaching children and youths, coaching youths in serving and planning for college, sharing of parenting experiences, planning conferences that equip and motivate people to do their best at work. Elaine is anactive alumnus serving on the board and committees for Cornell and Princeton, including interviews with college applicants, hosting college fairs at local high schools, and chairing the Reunions Committee. Elaine has been happily married to Dominic since 1986, blessed with two wonderful children: Grace (working in NYC) and Christopher (new college graduate, to work in San Diego). They live in Basking Ridge, NJ.

廖冰女士简介： Dr. Bonnie Liao. For the past 9 years, she has been the Principal & Trustee of YingHua Language School , which she founded in May 2002. YingHua Language is the first community-based school accredited by CSS at Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. She has also initiated and designed the "YingHua in Beijing " Summer Language & Leadership Institute providing learning opportunities to American youth ages 8 to 17 who spend a month in China . She has been the Director of the program since 2004. In May 2007, she founded YingHua International School as one of the first Chinese-English dual language schools in the United States combining language immersion with an internationally-focused inquiry-based curriculum framework.

美术家杨来雁女士简介：
四川美术家协会会员。四川美术学院国画专业硕士。2005年获得学士学位并获免试推荐及全额奖学金继续研修绘画艺术，获得硕士学位。3年大型专业艺术机构从业经验，5年幼儿至成人艺术培训经验。成功辅导学生通过少儿专业艺术考级（最高十级）及通过专业美术院校艺术类高考。作品多次参加大型艺术展（多本画册出版）艺术节并获奖。作品曾被博物馆，画廊，一线影视明星收藏。

张冰冰博士简介 鋼琴家張冰冰女士生於中國大陸，長於香港，以最高學術成績獎畢業於香港浸會大學音樂系，並獲頒英國倫敦聖三一音樂學院研究演奏文憑。她繼以獎學金身份赴波士頓音樂學院攻讀演奏碩士，並獲該院頒發國家學術榮譽獎，隨後獲得羅格斯大學鋼琴藝術博士學位。張女士曾多次參加世界性的音樂節及大師班活動，並於德國、俄羅斯、捷克及法國等國家作獨奏演出。她不但長於獨奏、伴奏及室內樂演出，同時也熱衷於鋼琴教育的工作。張女士曾任教於普林斯頓思敏寺音樂學院，擔任全國音樂教師協會表演比賽主席，更經常做國內外多項比賽評審，為本地音樂教師做演講，更被國家音樂協會鑑定為“被認可的音樂教育家”。

九月二十四日父母子女教育俱乐部将举行一场有关艺术特长在大学申请中的作用的特别座谈会。由莎伦画院总校长刘莎伦以及艺术总监Emily Cui 主讲。Emily Cui目前是莎伦画院艺术总监， 毕业于罗得岛美术学院（全美排名第一）工业设计系。她从小在莎伦画院学画，很有艺术才华。这次刘校长和Emily来给大家分享申请艺术学院的经验和体会。

越来越多的华人家长认识到子女未来的就业成功之路不止局限在理工科，医科，商科等领域。有艺术特长的孩子可以申请顶尖美术学院，或以此特长申请别的相关学科。以下是座谈会要讲的大概内容：

父母子女教育俱乐部2011年6月18日第九十一期活动 – "了解代溝"

執業護理師王秀蘭女士將主講“了解代溝”, 內容包含加強與子女，朋友或親屬溝通, 了解年輕一代的行為，防止，面對，及處理彼此之間的矛盾及衝突. 不管你是父親或母親或祖父母, 了解代溝可以增加 良性的溝通與避免幾代人之間的衝突. 什麼是代溝？由於雙方年紀差別，導致雙方的興趣，喜好，心態，對不同事物的看法等各方面都有不同的見解，因此引起了溝通的問題，這稱之為「代溝」。

溝通常常牽涉了信息發送者，信息接收者，信息內容,等等. 精通溝通可以幫助人与群体之间思想与感情正面的传递, 家人間良好溝通可間接教導青春期子女如何跟人和平共處.

"了解代溝" 即在向為人父母者提示如何和青春子女和諧相處與化解衝突之道。放下身段，和孩子做朋友，是搭建父母親與青春期子女和平共處的重要橋樑。

Mrs. Shiow-Lan Wang is a certified nurse practitioner. She is currently working as a clinical nurse specialist in the cardiology areas at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick for the last 20 years. Her jobs at the hospital are included writing policies and procedures to guide nursing practice, teaching nurses, and involving performance improvements in four units.

She has a 21 years old daughter who will be graduated in a college with double majors in 3.5 years. Her daughter is currently working as summer internship in Boeing aircraft company in Seattle. Shiow-Lan has been a teacher for the last 32 years.

父母子女教育俱乐部将于2011年3月19日举办第八十八期活动，本次活动的主题是“寻找自己独特的亲子教育原则和方式“。我们都有这样的体会，看了一本子女教育的好书，或听了一场精彩的子女教育的讲座，觉得很有道理,很受启发.但当实际操作时，好像总有点不知如何下手的感觉；是应该象虎妈那样‘逼’孩子呢，还是应该以激励和引导孩子为主；什么时候应该坚持原则不让步，什么时候应该尊重和考虑孩子的意愿，怎样掌握这个尺度。本次活动，将继续上个月“怎样培养孩子的学习和求知兴趣及动力”的讨论，黄敏将用她个人的一些经验和体会，与大家分享她的亲子教育原则，她是如何在尝试和摸索中，运用这些原则来帮助做出选择和决定的。只有符合你和孩子个性的亲子教育方式，才是最有效的方式，所以讨论会的后半部分将会由大家一起来讨论,如何寻找每个人独特的亲子教育原则和方式。每个做家长的都有自己的困惑，体会和经验，让我们共同来互相交流，磋商和取经。欢迎有兴趣的家长和青少年报名参加讨论会。

多元 全能 天份——挖掘孩子的潜能 《多维时报》和父母子女教育俱乐部共同举办第七届年会

10月9日，《多维时报》和父母子女教育俱乐部共同举办了第七届专题子女教育研讨会。今年的主题为“多元智能=全能？”（Understanding Multiple Intelligences， Knowing Yourself），旨在为家长提供“更好理解多元智能，了解你自己，了解孩子。”这样的讨论平台，为到会家长提供了精彩的演讲，并和主讲人及各位专家展开了丰富的讨论。

主讲人王晓蕾（Xiao-lei Wang）1992年从芝加哥大学获得博士学位， 目前在Pace University 任教育学教授。王教授是一位跨学科的学者。她的研究领域很广，涵盖子女教育的文化模式，非语言交流对在家中多种语言习得和发展的影响。

她在演讲中提到，看起来淘气，无用的孩子，经过正确的引导和启发，一样可以成材。尤其是要学会从各个方面挖掘孩子的潜能，多元智能涵盖面其实非常广泛，在语言、音乐、逻辑思维等等方面之外还有更广阔的空间，要不断的鼓励孩子发现自己，并在日常生活中避免给孩子负面的影响以及应付的态度。另外，“给孩子机会，让他们有更多的机会去接触不同的事物，有自己的判断才能不断成长，哪怕是错的，家长不能全部代劳。”

本次专题讨论会上的几位专家，前AT&T的主管David Lu，创办私立学校的廖冰（Bonnie Liao），出版过多部畅销书的作家陈屹（Helen Chen），以及创办个人权利公司的 Loise Kuo Habakus，他们丰富的经历为家长们打开不同的眼界。主持人刘向群为他们各自的经历喝彩，并穿针引线的让他们分别介绍了在不同领域和经历中如何发掘出了各自的能力。

来自上海的David Lu在AT&T做了23年，主管过百余人，同时在音乐领域和教会，以及培养孩子上有很多体悟。Louise说自己是美国长大的华人第二代，从小父母和自己的要求就是要做个乖乖女，好学生，好妻子，好妈妈，从开始做母亲的那一天起，她就发现自己的工作角色完全改变。陈屹表示，从小父母就言传身教“一切要靠你自己。”作为1977届的大学生，又有着非常多的经历，她说那一届只是有着比常人更加执着更加坚持的精神，教育孩子中她也把这些融合其中。为华人熟悉的廖冰，先后任职美林证券，高中教师.等不同职业角色，她在教育上的激情从来没有间断过，创建了英华日校，并积极筹建中英双语私立学校。

"多元智能=全能? Understanding Multiple Intelligences, Knowing Yourself" is the theme of the 7th annual Chinese American Parenting [CAP2010] conference.

Since 1983 when Dr. Howard Gardner, a Harvard professor of education developed the concept of “multiple intelligences,” there have been misconceptions about the concept as well as its application in parenting and in classrooms. How can this well-researched concept help parents to help their children achieving their potential?

We are fortunate to have Dr. Xiao-lei Wang (王晓蕾) as the keynote speaker. Dr. Wang received her doctoral degree from the University of Chicago in 1992. She is currently a full professor in the School of Education at Pace University. Dr. Wang was a regular speaker for Voice of America, local, national, and international parents’ associations on child and language development. In addition, she is a regular invited reviewer for several academic journals. Dr. Wang is an interdisciplinary scholar. Her research covers a wide range of topics such as cultural parenting styles, effects of nonverbal communication in teaching and learning, multilingual acquisition and development in the home environment, and moral development. Her recent books “Growing up with Three Languages” and “Reading and Writing in the Multilingual Home” (in press) focus on the challenges and strategies of raising children with heritage languages.

Following the keynote speech, Ms. Sandra Liu will moderate a panel discussion focusing on a wide range of practical parenting issues and questions related to this year’s theme.

We are in great pleasure to invite Henry Meng to share his child education experience. [His son, Damon, attended the prestigious Julliard school pre-college Division before entering college for many years and is just completed his first year in Harvard.] Henry will share his experience as parent who joggling between demanding work and son's heavy training schedule.

We often hear from mother side of story. This is great opportunity for us to hear from father side of experience along with many of communication related issues that we as parents facing regularly. How to overcome the problems and handle issues? Henry will tell us his accumulation of knowledge. Wish you will join us for this unique occasion!

PCE would like to start a public speaking program for the teens while parents are having our own discussion. Our teens can have their own activity. Alex Jia who will lead our teenage program had many good items for the teenage group and having a dedicated room for their activity really help PCE a great deal to offer the teenage program. We hope that you can bring your teenagers so that they themselves can also enjoy this wonderful event.

PCE will conduct its 80th event featuring "EQ is Believing Yourself". In this club we have always been focusing on EQ development, and we are inviting parents to share their experience concerning this subject.

Betty Tuan is the mother of four, and she also worked in the IT area. Currently, Betty has been devoting her time in managing the NJCCC and Elite Preparatory Academy with her husband Jimmy Hwang.

I am honored to invite her coming to this PCE event to share her experience with us. Each of Betty's four children have their own unique story to tell that Betty will explain to us. She was able to recognize the difference among the four and apply different methods to take care each of her children. Let's find out how she did it and what we can learn from her methods and procedures.
